Pulled over, pet it for a while. Now I want a cat. Went on local shelters website, looked at cute cats, got sad when I realized I have 2 barely running vehicles that both need expensive work, have only a part time job and college to deal with... cant afford cat. Crying... I want cat

There was a stray cat that would occasionally wander around my house in California. Once when it wasn’t too scared of me, it approached me and let me pet it. It rolled over as I stroked its back and started purring. That cat was such a sweetheart.

My g/f swapped her apartment with her friend for last weekend so I spent a few days six hours south in SoCal with a tiny little fuzzface that did nothing but want to play fetch for hours on end and then cuddle up next to you when it’s time to sleep.

I feel ya. I want cat too.

Should have just abducted that cat...I got my first two cats (chronologically, I've only ever had one at a time) as adult strays. Current cat I adopted as a tiny little fluff ball. Cats are great though, so easy. We just got a second dog and, while I love both of the dogs, they're a real pain in the ass. The cat poops in a box and hangs out downstairs all day. Cat > dog.

There will be more cats when you can afford one.

That’s why I love other people’s dogs. They’re great and all, but I do not want to take care of one. Our cat is as easy as can be.

Cats are cheap. Go to a shelter, get an adult. Here the adults are free. Then you really just need litter and food. I probably spend $30-$60 a month on those things.

Our neighbours had abandoned a bunch of poor cats that we had to trap and re-home to barns as barn cats because they’d been out so long they were feral.

One of them had kittens and 2 of the kittens never came back, sadly, but after we trapped momma cat (we can’t control which one walks into the trap first), we only had one of the kittens find it’s way back by itself. We trapped that one and tried to tame it when it was about 12-weeks old. 12 weeks is the cutoff for when they are tamable, so we weren’t holding our breath to try and socialize the sweet little girl, but with a lot of work and love....

...she’s still sitting on the floor behind me wanting to play. That was just over a year ago May and I can’t remember life without her! :)

One cat is pretty cheap, but I understand having only a PT gig and school being a major time/money consumer. When we had only one I think I barely noticed the expense. Now we have three and it's definitely noticeable. We buy better quality foods, so their wet food is about $2/day for all three. Dry food is about $35 every other month. We go through a 42lb bag of litter (+/-$15 depending on sales) roughly once per month. All told it's about $1 per cat per day. Not including toys, furniture scratch guards, etc, which are all pretty much one time purchases.
